Since time immemorial (well, at least as long as I can remember ...) there was no summer in Vienna when the green of spring still tried to fight the red of fall but rather the end of summer was marked by brown grasses and even watered lawns fighting the brown colour forced on them by the summer heat.
Not so this year. Strangely not even the meadows of Donauinsel (which aren't watered) are brown - they still are a lush green! And the hot lands (Heisslände) of Lobau too still retain some green in the undergrowth even though the long blades of grass are brown - they're supposed to as their seeds are ripe: and when grasses are ripe they begin to fade (as do grain crops which too are grasses). But there are some signs of fall nevertheless, besides the autumn crocus.
