wasp spider

Argiope bruennichi
I know, I haven't been active here for some days, don't you worry - I haven't abandoned my blog. Just have been occupied with other things, like with this lovely spider here.

parasites astray

Cuscuta europaea, on Bromus sterilis
Cuscuta europaea isn't supposed to use a grass like Bromus sterilis as a host, but still it does. Serves it right, it'll get punished through self-punishment: the parasite will kill the grass long before it could open flower, let alone produce fruit; and a parasite killing its host is nothing but a silly parasite.

mohn

My beloved poppy flower is flowering again, for some days already - but this is the best photo I took for a while, so I've got to show it here on my blog.

a very weird spring

This year's spring really is strange: some of the earliest flowering plants are late in flowering because it was too dry; other ones, those which are latecomers in spring, came earlier because it was warm enough and later some rain arrived.
It is still too dry for the season, but the rainy weather of the last days caused many plants to grow even more quicker.

cold cold spring

There has been some rain recently (finally! a hundred thousands plant dearly were waiting for it), but still not enough by any means - it is still very dry for season and climate, here in Austria, and in spring. But at least rain now lets grow everything, flowers will explode in the days to come. Which is a pity, as I've got some social events on my plate, which will reduce my time out there, with my beloved flowers, considerably.

Ulmus minor (subsp. minor)
Well, it's just nice, isn't it? Nothing special whatsoever, just nice to look at.

last year's bushfire

Bushfire - Populus sp., Euphorbia cyparissias, Crataegus monogyna
Those who haven't seen the place last year wouldn't notice that there has been a bushfire - if it weren't for the scorched tree trunks and burnt bushes.
Here's how the place looks now, in the spring after the fire. Much has been destroyed, but fortunately still plenty of plants survived, orchids too of course - even though not on this place.
