First Austrian Islamic Cemetery

Vienna Islamic Cemetery
It was vandalised by right-wing extremists even before it was operating, and there was considerable opposition against having a purely Islamic cemetery also by moderate political forces.

Anyway, here it is, and God sees that it is good. Possibly, probably, it makes it easier for Muslims to feel integrated and at home here in Austria, where many of them found their new homeland. So even though I am radically against separation along cultural divisions (religion obviously being one of them) I am radically in favour of the idea behind building this cemetary - which is, for me, a statement of the Islamic community that they want to adapt to Austria.

electric avenue

This photo of course has nothing to do at all with the ancient hit of Eddy Grant (which by the way I never liked), only that the song came to my mind when taking in that scenery. I only wonder why.

wienerwald

The mountain range called Viennese Forest. That is, more hilly lands they are.

schwechat river

There are some Foehn days ahead - a warm catabatic wind which will eat away all the snow which has fallen in the Alps lately quickly.
And there was me thinking we've seen the last of a nice fall! There's more to come of this stuff soon here on this blog, or so I hope.

solar energy

Weeell ... not flowing through the wire there obviously, but delivered by the sun herself. We've had some spells of sunshine recently, and even the first frosts in the morning too. This however shall be over soon, really ugly, cold and wet autumn weather is about to arrive.

it's either a sunset or an autumn crocus

Sorry to all who voted for the latter (because they can't stand yet another boring sunset), but it'll be the former (due to the majority voting against the umptieth photo of an autumn crocus).

autumn crocus

No, not yet; not a single specimen of Colchicum autumnale to be found anywhere. Meanwhile, for a change, a sunset. I know, they're boring, everybody can do sunsets; but I haven't in quite a while so please bear with me:

germany

Life's unfair.

Time and again we saw Germany playing awfully unwatchable football, with one and only one aim - to win the match whatever it takes, without considering the point of view of neutral fans who might actually want to see a good match.

This year however Germany played very Un-German in their first match (which of course they won), and so did they in the second one - but today, even though they lost one player due to a very hard second yellow card early, they were still clearly the better team, but lost nevertheless against Serbia.

Fair's fair, and even though that's not easy for an Austrian to admit but one must sympathise with the German team. So I'm awarding them with the golden sunset, and as this won't compensate for todays defeat also with my best wishes for the rest of the tournament, which in all fairness shouldn't end for them at group stage already.

As for the other matches, Slovenia more or less has cleared its name today by actually playing football; nevertheless of course the US clearly were the better team and by rights should have won the match (with that goal the referee declared to be 'unjust' or whatever, as it clearly was not off-side).

The evening match of England will begin soon, and I only hope that they finally live up to the expectations I had for them; I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for them.

bright sunshiny day

We've had a most lovely day today. Warm, too - hot even, reaching sixteen degrees Celsius. And last but not least, quite a spectacular sunset.

dusk

A jogger ran past me being focussed on himself and his pulse. A dog owner was worried about his dog sniffing at my legs. Two women riding their bicycles didn't seem to notice much of what was around them. Drivers in their cars drove over the bridge without even thinking about nature being around them.

As far as I could tell, I was the only one who noticed the beauty of this evening.
