dirt

Today I've learnt two things:

If thunderstorms are forecast watch out for them.

And if a roadsigns says 'detour due to flooding' then it says so because you should really take the detour because the road is flooded.

Obviously I didn't heed either advice.

Here's one of my favourite Hot Lands of Lobau national park, and one of my favourite roads. You don't see much of the road admittedly but at least parts of the hotland vegetation, especially the ubiquituous hawthorn bushes. The 'grey leaves' above mark the 'dirtline' - the highest level to which water rose. When I was there today water levels were a mere seventy to eighty centimetres above road level; the dirtline however proofs that the road was more than a meter below flood level.
