These bushes and trees on Rauchenwarther Platte were planted to prevent wind erosion.
There's no particular reason however why lilacs should be planted (Syringa vulgaris), so probably the guy who planted them just liked lilacs. (I don't, just for the record, as I don't like their pungent smell - way too sweet for my liking.)
