Today, at long last, it happened: the sun showed itself for a very short time, then was again covered by fog and it started snowing out of the fog, but shortly afterwards it started to snow for real - and it hasn't stopped since.
Well - not exactly: this second, as I wrote this, it stopped snowing.
However, this picture was taken a few hours earlier, standing on ice cracking below my feet:
Although the bayous of Lobau are frozen over solidly the ice is only just thick enough to bear a man, and in some places not even quite (so one has to be careful). It's not blank either, as you can see, due to small amounts of snow falling continuously in the last weeks, mostly 'industrial' snow as mentioned yesterday.
If it doesn't start raining overnight I really ought to drive out to Lobau tomorrow morning - should just be a winter's dreamland by then.
