simmering market

In Vienna, old-fashioned markets still thrive, despite the fact that American style shopping centres (and American style fast food chains) conquer this city like any other in the world.

If you've ever been to Vienna you might have been to the so-called Naschmarkt, the most famous market-place near Secession and Karlsplatz; but there are lots of others.

In Simmering (which is the part of town where I am living), there's for example the Simmeringer Markt: a not-so-famous-market with not-so-nice snack bars (which are called Würstelbude here - or Gasthaus, if bigger, or even Saftbar, meaning juice bar, in rare cases - and which you may compare them to the british Caf's where you can get your breakfast rolls and beans - apart from the fact that you get 'real' sausages in Austria and - no offense meant - not these longish balls of meat they serve in the UK).

Anyway, now, the not-so-famous Simmeringer Markt:Ugly, but has style, now hasn't it? At least that's my opinion. Forget Naschmarkt, Simmeringer Markt is what you want to see!

I am, honestly, not looking forward to the redesigning of this marked already planned by the city fathers. On the contrary, I will make sure to get enough good pictures of this 1970ies-style market-place; really they should put it under protection of historic buildings.
