gasometer grätzl

Here you are, Vienna Gasometer City unveiled.

I could have chosen a more flattering view (I have lots to choose from) but I like it a bit dirty and come down.

The buildings you see in the foreground give you an impression of what this part of town looked like before. In this area there also was a lot of wasteland - called Gstettn in the local dialect -, and there's still some left.

In the background where you can see the four gasometers you already will make out a few modern buildings, and there's lots of building activity still going on in the area. In a few years there might be no Gstettn left and even the shabby buildings in the foreground might be replaced by modern architecture.

Well, it wouldn't exactly be a bad thing for this district to move upwards. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be the same any more.
