göller

Of all the peaks of the East Alpine Rim I chose the one which kept its fog cap long into the afternoon, when I was already on my way down. And I also chose the wrong way up, through thick mountain pine shrubs which not only left me exhausted but wet too - from the fog which condensed on its needles. So anyway, when I shot this photo I was tired and cold, and as there was also a fierce wind blowing I just couldn't wait up there till the fog lifted.
By the way, I almost missed the peak altogether as fog reduced visibility to a few metres - not that I would have minded missing the peak, after all I didn't expect anything else but another near-ascent without reaching the peak. But as I suddenly was standing up there, and with no other people around, I left my mark in the summit register of Göller peak. So if you want to know my full name you'll have to climb it and look at that entry.
On the descent then I was rewarded with a spectacular view over the mountain range when the fog was lifting; the peak in the background however is the smaller neighbour of Göller, so-called Gippel peak - Göller, at this time, still was covered in fog.
