schwechat river

Yesterday someone told me that Schwechat river once flew through Simmering, the district of Vienna where I am living for almost a decade now, and that only when Schwechat river became semi-canalised ("Flussregulierung" it is called in German) to prevent floodings the river was diverted to the town of Schwechat.

Now one might say that such regulated river beds are no longer attractive, and I am the first one to admit that a re-naturation of these rivers would be desireable (and also would look so much better on a photograph), but still Schwechat river is a nice piece of landscape.

(Oh, and the flowering plants you see here mostly are Raps, that plant used in agriculture for oil fruits and green fodder; here it is growing 'semi-wild'.
