As you can see finally Lobau really looks autumn-ish, and not only on a very few places but everywhere. Also water levels are low: that path you see here was swamped a few weeks ago and under water for a few metres. Water levels are regulated in Lobau: there are weirs to keep water levels high in spring and summer (with water pumped in from New Danube to make sure that the bayous don't degrade into ponds) and low in fall and winter, as they are supposed to be, as the cycle of nature once worked. It now does not anymore by itself.
Strange, really: artificial regulation to keep nature intact. But that's how it works.
