two apples

I've got a deal with the farmers in and around Vienna: I provide their fields with fertiliser (you know which one, no need to mention it) and in turn I take some of their crops - only some mouthfuls of course, some wheat and rye and millet (and then some parsley ...), not more than the fertiliser provided for would produce.

But now that even millet has been harvestet not much is left: only sunflowers (which I don't eat) and maize (your American corn) which I only eat when still young. (Well, there are also beets left still; I think I don't have to tell you that they are even worse.)

So I have to fall back to apples which is not so bad really, there are some wild apple trees around here. And I'm not talking of the wild apples - the forest apples - because for them you really need to have a very tough stomach and even then you won't enjoy the experience.

Like the one shown here - which of course is an apple cultivar, but one growing in the wilderness; no one seems to care anymore about it. (Well, I did try forest apples, and even though they taste slightly better than wild pears they aren't quite a delicacy; with wild pears it is like your tongue would be glued to your palate while with wild apples - the real ones - you are spared that, your tongue only would shrink to half its normal size and that's that.)

Those two apples of course I didn't eat (they're much too beautiful, aren't they, I only ate the wrinkled ones), but their brothers and sisters indeed tasted sweet:

Now this shot would be what most people would expect a 'proper' photo to look like; hard contrast and saturated colours.

The same looks quite different with less contrast and saturation and soft-focus applied:

(The soft-focus method applied here was an incredibly expensive one; to reproduce this effect you need a dirt road, dry weather, a slight wind blowing and a tractor - and you'll also have to hire a driver for the latter who will drive down the dirt road. Me I was lucky, the tractor driver didn't charge me anything for providing the soft-focus effect.)

The same two apples also could be taken in black and white, and to be honest this is the one I like best:
