Yesterday morning was bright and sunny.
Winter days like these are quite rare here in Vienna - this day really was special, especially after last year's winter with almost no snow at all: some compensation I didn't dare to hope for, considering climate change and global warming.
However, there are supposed to follow warmer days next week, so the snow most likely won't last till next weekend.
The ice on the pools and bayous of Lobau was extremely thin and already began to melt shortly after sunrise. I wonder if we'll see them frozen over some time in this year's winter - thick enough to walk on it.
[I hope you don't mind me using the term 'bayou' for the 'old' streams of Danube river which today are cut off from the main river and which are only filled by rain and groundwater. The 'bayous' of Lobau don't contain brackish water, and you won't find shrimps or such like in there, but apart from that you could indeed compare them to the bayous of Mississippi.]
